Christmas Day for most people is a time to spend with family and other loved ones. As a public holiday, most people get Christmas Day off work. However, every Christmas Day more than one million people around the UK spend their Christmas away from home – be it at work in their offices, serving in our Armed Forces, or in our vital public services.
Every Christmas Day I visit some of those in Northampton who spend the day at work or on duty. On Christmas Day in previous years I have either visited Northampton General Hospital, Northamptonshire Police Headquarters or local Northampton Police stations to meet and talk to the hard-working staff caring for those in need.
On Christmas Day last month I visited on-duty Police Officers at Weston Favell Police Station to thank them for their hard work over the past twelve months.
It is also something of a tradition for me to visit BBC Radio Northampton on Christmas Day- and the host lets me choose a song to play on air! For those of you who might be interested, the Christmas song I picked (and always pick!) as my favourite was Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You.
